What This Site Is
HowToEstonia.com publishes practical guides for foreigners moving to, living in, or running a company in Estonia — e-Residency, visas and residence permits, tax, healthcare and banking. We are an information publisher. We research topics, check figures against primary sources where we can, and write down what we find.
What we are not
We are not a law firm, immigration adviser, tax adviser, accountant, financial adviser, insurance intermediary or bank, and nothing on this site is legal, tax, financial or immigration advice. Where we link to a provider, any contract you enter is directly between you and that provider — we are not a party to it, and we do not sell, arrange or underwrite anything mentioned here.

No Advice Given
Everything here is general information written for a broad audience, not a recommendation tailored to your circumstances.
Not legal or immigration advice
Permit, visa and citizenship decisions are made case by case by the Police and Border Guard Board. Where the outcome matters — an application, a refusal, a deadline — take advice from a qualified immigration lawyer.
Not tax advice
Estonian rates changed three times in eighteen months, and your position depends on facts specific to you, including where you are resident and which treaty applies. Confirm anything that matters with the Tax and Customs Board or a qualified adviser.
Not financial or banking advice
Nothing here is a recommendation to open a particular account or use a particular institution. Whether a provider will accept you depends on its own assessment, which we have no part in and cannot predict.
Calculators are illustrations
The salary and VAT calculators apply published rates to figures you enter. They do not know your circumstances, they are not a payslip, and they are not a tax return. Treat the output as an estimate.
If a decision matters — money, your immigration status, your health — verify it against an official source or with a licensed professional before acting on anything you read here.
Accuracy, and Its Limits
We take accuracy seriously and describe our method in the editorial guidelines. Every figure is traced to a primary source and dated, and where a figure could not be sourced the page says so rather than guessing.
That is a real commitment and it is not a guarantee. Rules change, sometimes at short notice and sometimes mid-year. Sources occasionally contradict each other — the digital nomad visa income requirement is stated three different ways by three Estonian government bodies, and that page says so. A page carries the month it was last reviewed, and a figure correct on that date may not be correct today.
The site is provided as is. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we exclude liability for loss arising from reliance on anything published here, including a refused application, a missed deadline, or a tax position that turns out differently than a page suggested. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited.
The Referral Form
Some pages carry a form offering to put you in touch with an immigration specialist. If you use it:
- We pass your details to a specialist only because you ticked the consent box, and only for the purpose named beside it.
- The specialist is independent. We do not employ them, supervise them, or take responsibility for their advice, their fees, or the outcome of your matter.
- Any engagement you enter is between you and them. We are not a party to it.
- No referral arrangement currently earns us a fee.
What happens to the data itself is set out in the privacy policy.
Outbound Links
Links to banks, insurers, service providers and government bodies go through a redirect on this domain (/go/…). Once you follow one you are on someone else's site, governed by their terms and their privacy policy, not ours. We do not control what they publish and are not responsible for it.
No outbound link on this site currently earns us anything. If that changes, the pages carrying commissioned links will say so on the page, not only here.

The text, structure and design of this site are ours. You are welcome to quote a short passage with a link back, and to share pages freely. Republishing pages wholesale, or using them to train a model that reproduces them, is not permitted without asking first.
Figures published by Estonian authorities are of course theirs, and are cited as such.

These terms are governed by Estonian law, and disputes fall to the Estonian courts, save where a mandatory consumer-protection rule in your own country of residence gives you a right you cannot be deprived of by agreement.
